I'm a "Native Californian" having been born, raised and educated in Southern California. I began focusing on a career in dentistry about mid-way through high school as doing so would satisfy my desire to work as a healthcare professional and utilize the creative abilities my hobbies seemed to center around. While in high school I participated in team sports, student government, instrumental music performance groups, and service clubs. I was also heavily involved with my church youth group and began dating Lisa who would become my wife some five years later.
I enrolled at Fullerton Community College for two years and transferred to San Diego State University where I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Biology with an emphasis in physiology in December 1981. I applied to over one dozen dental schools all across the country and was accepted to nine programs including three of the five California schools. I chose Loma Linda University (LLU) based on the program's exceptionally high clinical standards and requirements and the overall learning environment. I graduated with honors in 1986 and while enrolled received a number of clinical and academic awards and again participated in student government, intramural team sports and leadership roles. Upon graduating and passing the California Board Exam, I came to Atascadero to work as an "Associate Dentist" for a well established general dentist who himself was a LLU Alumni. After 32 months of his mentorship, I felt compelled and competent in opening up and managing my own private practice where I continue to practice to this day.
I am honored to serve my local community and provide dental care for my patients in what I consider to be the jewel of California. This community has allowed Lisa and me to raise our three sons in a slower paced, rural environment void of the hustle and bustle of urban life. We are blessed that each has gone on to graduate college and are now working in their field of study (in large urban cities) rendering us "Empty Nesters."
We enjoy traveling to new and exotic destinations, fine food and wine, and entertaining. I continue to be active in leadership roles in organized dentistry at the local, state and national levels. I enjoy woodworking and many outdoor sportsman activities, but most of all, I enjoy being with family.
